Bannon, Class of 1976 |

Joined
the USAF in January of 1978 and worked in the procurement
field during my career. My first duty station was
Andrews AFB, Maryland (1978 -1981) where I provided
support for the 89 MAW (Air Force One), the Pentagon,
HQ Air Force Systems Command, and HQ Military Airlift
Command. Tour highlight was being a part of the
Inauguration of Ronald Regean. Left Andrews for
an duty at Williams AFB, AZ (1981-1986). Our mission
at Williams AFB was to provide basic flight instruction
for pilots. I was amazed at how many people from
Ohio I met there. Andersen AFB, Guam (1986-1990).
The only overseas SAC base at the time. The best
part of this assignment was being deployed to Darwin
Australia on routine bomber deployments for training
and for Operation "Pitch Black". Arrived
at Mac Dill AFB in Tampa, FL in September 1990.
At the time Mac Dill provided graduate pilot training
in the F-16 Falcon. Half the base was deployed in
support of Desert Shield. Mac Dill also hosts the
two Unified Commands of Special Operations Command
and US Central Command. Deployed to Saudi a Arabia
in support of Desert Storm. I took early retirement
in 1995 as part of the downsizing of the military.
I'm currently the Manager of Procurement and Contracts
for the Central Florida Regional Transportation
Authority (LYNX) in Orlando Florida. If you're ever
down this way, drop a line. |

a few years later.

In
the photo above (click to enlarge and see entire
picture), we are in the parking lot adjacent to
the US Embassy helicopter landing zone forming
up for a convoy - gun trucks protecting us are
in the background. Standing in back of our up-armored
GMC Envoy are an FBI guy - myself - and a Navy
helicoper pilot who was the Dep Director of the
Joint Personnel Recovery Center. We were working
hostage rescue cases. The flak jacket the Navy
guy is wearing can also be seen on US reporter,
and recovered hostage, Jill Carroll at the web
site of the Christian
Science Monitor ... she wore it on the plane
we used to fly her out of Iraq to Germany. Note
the sign on the back of our armored car - sometimes
you rely on a senseof humor to get you through
the day.
